sickies and other thoughts

I haven't mentioned that Middle's K teacher wasn't one of the ones I requested. She is a newbie at the school. I have to be honest. I was less than thrilled as Middle is a 'high energy' kid and needs a teacher with a bunch of experience with more challenging kids. I had several people tell me to go in and ask him to be switched. Oh how I wanted to do just that but in reality, I don't like to cause waves. I like to complain but I really don't want to do much about anything. I told dh that maybe there was a reason for him being in his class. A few days ago I found out the teacher I had really wanted is pregnant. Hmmm... That would not be good for Middle. Some random teacher coming in for six weeks minimum would bring out the wild child in him. I then thought, "Maybe it's a good thing he's in his current class." Then, today, I had the same feeling. Middle is coming down with a little cold. He has asthma and it's bad enough that just after Christmas last year he ended up in the hospital for several days after an ambulance ride. I told her that I had checked his breathing and it looked okay but to please send him home if he showed any signs of breathing problems. She told me she would be on the lookout for it and that both of her kids have asthma. Inside sigh of relief..................

Youngest started out cranky today. She had a little runny nose at lunch and by dinner she had a faucet. Oh, that would be the only faucet in our house as we lost our water pressure for the day. The neighbor had put hair color on and went to rinse and there was no pressure. She ended up doing it outside in the pressurized irrigation. CRAZY! Boy do we take simple things for granted.

Very tired

An overactive imagination kept me up most of the night(all but 2 1/2 hours of it). It doesn't help that Middle and Oldest are both sleepwalkers. The house lights were turned on in the middle of the night and that made and already chicken mother more of a chicken. Today I went and bought wooden dowels and cut them to go in my windows. Now really, who would want to come in my house. I think a robber would feel like it was a waste of time when they saw all of the junk we have. I have to admit I was wishing I could attribute my messy house to something when a neighbor saw it. It looked pretty ransacked.

Oldest had a great day at school today. Youngest had a better day. I guess the other K boys decided to share the balls at recess. Oldest got into a bit of a tiff with a good friend. There isn't much to explain and I can see both sides. Oldest should not feel like she always has to do things her friend's way (which is how it almost always turns out) but she also should not snub her friend and walk away from her. They don't know how to deal with confrontation at this age. Oh, and really I don't think I know how to deal with confrontation.

For example, I know someone who needs help watching her son before school. I thought about offering my services before but then decided with a young baby I didn't want to. That's the great thing about being a SAHM. You may not have dollars lining your pockets but you have some freedom of time. Today this mom asked if another mom and I might be interested in swapping kids. You know, once a month on a random day I might be interested but the thought of being committed to one more thing is too much. Between helping in kids' classes, trading with other moms while they work in classes, dance and music lessons, this and that, I feel like I have no time. I want to be the nice person that is helpful but I just don't think I can do it. I'm going to offer to watch her youngin' this week while she finds someone. She's a totally funny person and I really like her. I just don't see it as a fit for my family. And heck, what would I do with a morning a week. My baby takes naps and wouldn't really let me be out and about.

On a sad note, this morning, a friend told me her mother had breast cancer. She was trying to be so optimistic on the phone but I could hear the quiver. Oh how I hate that quiver. Sometimes when I am talking about my (two deceased) boys the quiver shows up and I feel like I am losing control. I just wanted to give her a squeeze and tell her everything would be all right. The problem is I am never that optimistic. I hope but I just can't be one of those people that is so certain.

First day of K

Today was Middle's first day of kindergarten. With Oldest I had her outfit planned a week in advance. She had tried it on every day for a week. In fact, it probably wasn't clean by the time she wore it to school. But for poor Middle child it wasn't so. An hour before school was supposed to start (and this is afternoon K) I start fumbling around trying to find a pair of shorts for him to wear. He wanted to wear an old pair of 4t shorts and a stained shirt. My first choice was rejected. So finally we concurred. He didn't even want me to fix his hair thinking it was fine to wear the same hair he has had all summer. It was fun to watch him get so excited for school. The kid was up at 5:30 this morning with a huge smile. It's too bad he's not about 8 years older and I would train him to take care of the baby so he can at least be useful that early. But of course, by the time he is a teen he won't be so giddy about the first day of school. DH came home from work and we both walked him to school. He didn't really seem to care about us when we left. The teacher kept trying to shoe all the parents away anyway.

So what to do with all this time? WHAT TIME? The kid goes to school for a whopping 2 hours and 35 minutes. By the time I have his pictures downloaded it'll be time to pick him up.

Did I mention that when Middle was showing Oldest his 'homework' (a birthday page with pictures of himself doing this with his birthdate) Oldest pointed out that Mom had put the wrong date on for his birthday. I used Oldest's day and Middle's month. I'm glad she pointed it out. I would have hated for the teacher to know how scatterbrained I am.

Oh and Oldest was really cute this morning. Yesterday she forgot her home lunch. I wasn't able to answer the phone when she called to ask me to bring it. She told me this morning that she quickly said a little prayer when she realized she didn't have her lunch. It's not like the kid was going to starve as she has over 50 dollars in her lunch account at school. She said after she said her little prayer she knew everything was going to be okay. She's my tenderheart that girl.
