I just had to record that we have had two good days with little Miss S. She hasn't been in timeout even one time. Maybe she has realized that we really do mean business and it just isn't worth it. She hasn't been scowling much or anything. Don't get me wrong. I know this won't last forever because everyone is prone to making mistakes or being grouchy. I'm just enjoying it while it lasts.
D has also been doing somewhat better. He has had a few fits that were pretty big but still, he has been much better.
Last night I tried running on my 'fixed' knee. It didn't hurt. I only did just under two miles to make sure. I didn't want to end up hurting it and then be stuck far away. I used my Nike + thing and it was a great motivator. I was about a minute and a half faster on each mile. For a slowpoke like me that is pretty dang great. I could tell I was running faster though because both my sides hurt and they never hurt. I'm still excited to try again tonight.

A funny prayer
I almost forgot to mention the funny little prayer that D gave before DH went out of town for work last week. He prayed that DH would be safe on his 'vacation from the family'. I almost started laughing. I know DH works hard when he is out of town and doesn't really enjoy it that much but I thought it was funny for D to think of it that way. (Well, that and DH did get to go to Ruth's Chris while he was out of town.)

A Brag on D
D has had some of his best days the last couple. He has been working so hard to control his temper and has genuinely been helpful. He hasn't been perfect, but what five year old is. I saw him today get frustrated with another kid that was cutting in line and he managed to hold it together and just wait. That is a huge deal for him. His eyes have been all sparkly too. I hope he has felt as good inside as he has been acting. He deserves it.
S, on the other hand, has had two very hard days. Yesterday she fussed for over half of her waking hours because she would not do her 3 minutes of time out. She just would not do it. She would sit there and almost comply but wouldn't do it completely. I hate to even admit how long it took her. Finally she had to go to the bathroom so badly (after I made the mistake of letting her get up once to go) that she wanted to sit in timeout quietly for 3 minutes. She knew what she had to do the entire day. Today, while I was gone shopping, DH caught her with her hands around C's neck again. C had something she wanted and she was angry at her. Luckily, C has a mouthful of teeth that bite quite well. So she lost her outside playing privileges. She did her timeout first thing though. Then, tonight, while DH had T on a daddy date she had to go to timeout again. She just wouldn't give in. She sat there and tried to get out of it for an hour and a half. Finally she had to go potty badly enough that she would sit there quietly for her three minutes. She is just so desperate to be in control and she really thinks she can outlast us. When is she going to figure out that she can't. She wasn't thrilled tonight because all of our dinner was gone by the time she got off and she ended up with black beans and broccoli (not mixed). It was super healthy and probably better for her than what we had but she wasn't thrilled. It is very disheartening for me each time she does something to C or the dog. I will start to think we are making progress and then she does that.
I'm glad DH is home from his trip. It's exhausting having the kids for the whole week by myself. It's easier than I thought it would be. I think it's because I dropped my expectations a bit. I'm really grateful to have him home.
Positive Note-The boys managed to sit through a small chapter book (Magic School Bus) in two days. They are finally gaining some patience.

DH Brag
I have to mention what an awesome job my DH did today at a race. Not only did he have another PR but he did one of the miles in less than six minutes. He's not one of the super speedy racers but for a six foot six Clydesdale he is doing great.
While he was racing the kids and I went to check out some yard sales. Just last night I was thinking that I needed a new pair of shoes to replace a pair of black ones I adored. They finally fell apart and I HAD to toss them. I was at this one yard sale looking for some doll house furniture and I saw a brand spankin' new pair of shoes in my size. That seemed a little weird until I saw the other shoes. They were all a size smaller. I guess the person decided a 11 really was too dang big. The bottoms of the shoes are still shiny with no wear. Yeah for me. And they were only a single buck too. I also bought a pair of Heelys for two dollars. I don't know who will get to try them but I like having them try them for two bucks instead of 40.
DH and I are wondering if C broke my nose today. I was snuggling with her on the couch and I was tickling her a bit. She threw her head right back onto my nose. It is so tender and a little numb. But it didn't bleed or swell a bunch (just a little) so I don't know. It's not like anyone is going to do anything about it anyway. It makes for a good story though.
Tonight I was reading C a book and when I got to the last page she said the sentence on the page. "That's better." I tried to get her to do it again for dh and she wouldn't. She seems to be certain that she isn't a performing monkey.
D really had a great day for him. He was cute because he mentioned in his prayers that he was thankful he could feel so happy inside because he did what was right. After they did chores this morning (and he and T already had an extra for a little fight) he OFFERED to scoop the poop in the backyard. He did it so willingly. I called DH and told him about it and encouraged him to stop off and find a little treat for him. He really did a good job today. Of course there were moments when it came apart but it was much much better.
S struggled a bit today. She is such a toddler. She knows how timeout is and she will almost comply but will try to test the limits by doing just a little bit of it the wrong way (facing out, touching things, etc.). I really do think she will get it. Today she just wanted to be tickled like crazy. I would tickle her under her arms and she would beg me to tickle her neck. I don't know how she can stand it.
Oh, I got a new 'treat' today. DH got a new ipod nano at work for some project so he gave me his old one. I had him pick me up the Nike +ipod thing . I tried it tonight but didn't make it far with it working because I hadn't charged the nano. It was totally cool though. I pushed the button a ton of times to see how fast I was going. It may not be completely accurate but it was very motivational. It's too bad that I was stuck in some Enya music though. It's not that I don't like Enya. It's just that Enya makes for slower running. I'm excited to try it out this week some more. My knee didn't feel to bad either so I was thrilled. Granted, I didn't go that far. I figured I should do an easy run and test the knee out. I'm hoping that taking that week and a half break will pay off and I won't have huge knee problems.
Positive Note-I was able to handle S's issues yesterday without getting super grouchy. I decided that I might as well stop praying for her to change and to start praying for help in dealing with her more. I was still a little on edge after she wiped her own feces on the wall because she was mad and so I needed all the help I could get. It worked. I was thrilled because the day before I had been so frustrated.

No, my computer is not down again
I just haven't been able to find the time to blog. There is always so much to blog about but never enough time to actually do it.
So a few highlights of the past week...........
M came running home from a latenight at her best buddy's house. She made it home on time. My friend told me that another friend kept asking if she made it home on time because she got grounded last time. I'm so happy the lesson stuck. She wasn't even grouchy that she was the first one to leave. She was just relieved to have made it in time. And I was glad to see her making a good decision and taking responsibility.
T has been saying, "Didn't you ever know that..." over and over this week. I guess he is just shocked that we know anything.
D has had a hard time at his summer program and at home this week. He elbowed a girl there and fabricated a doozy of a lie at home. I told him the tale of the little boy who cried wolf admitting to him that I didn't for sure remember how it ended but in my version the boy gets gobbled up by the wolf. The parable seemed to help in the lesson. He is in an uber controlling phase it seems. He wants to control what the kids all play and how it is done. That just doesn't fly in our house. One night we hung out together and I taught him how to do cartwheels. He is a cartwheeling maniac now. He's really pretty good at it. DH and I were talking about how he and T are built so differently. DH mentioned that D would probably be really strong someday because he already has such a strong torso. He was really excited today because he had a hiking fieldtrip. He said he was going to bring back a bunch of bugs.
S is having a pretty good day today. (I'll start out with the positive.) She did get really mad this week and went and peed on the floor. I was pretty devastated because after almost two months I thought maybe we had left that behind. She told me she was angry at me and that is why she did it. How does a 3 year old actually reason that out? But today has been great and she seems so happy. I just keep emphasizing how happy she feels when she is making good choices and is being kind. Yesterday she was running through the sprinklers and she just looked so darn cute.
And C, she is getting more and more funny. I caught her trying to drink from the dog's water (EWWWW!) the other day. She is really just growing up so fast now. This morning DH got her out of her crib and I heard her running toward me. She ran right up to me and started kissing me. Oh I am a sucker for that kid.
And what else? My knee still feels a little weird but I need to try running anyway. The kids' birthmom called this morning. I didn't see who called until later because she called right after six am. She didn't leave a message.
And with that I have to go. I'm trying this new cleaning thing where I give myself certain tasks that have to be done by the end of each hour and I need to haul to get the ones done for this hour.
Positive Note- It feels like summer finally.

A Week's Worth of Info
I have a bunch to catch up on. Of course, I have no idea if I have 3 minutes or 20 to type so I will just cruise through things somewhat backwards.
Today our family went racing. Dh's goal was to set a PR and he did it. As we were driving through part of the route to get to the race DH commented on how it seemed much more hilly than he remembered. He won his division. It helps that he is a giant and is probably the skinniest Clydesdale in the race. He actually probably is the skinniest as he is only about a half a pound above the weight minimum and at a half a foot or more taller than most of them. We ran into someone from our town there and she commented that her first thought when he went up to get his medal was that he couldn't be a Clydesdale. But he is. He is just a lanky one. I really like this race.
Speaking of racing, I did a race last Saturday. For a 5k it was a really big race. This is how the race played out. It was raining that morning. I was a little bit worried as that might get rid of a bunch of the slow pokes like myself. Nevertheless, I get up and head on over there. If nothing else, I got a kidfree ride in the car. It was really chilly and breezy (okay and still raining) before the race started so I just kind of hung out. When it came time for the race I headed to the the back of the pack. That is a race rule. If you are slow, head back. I guess people just don't all know this rule because there were tons of pokey people that were middle front of the packers. If you are pushing a double stroller and having your 3 year old get out and in to run then you don't start at the front. I thought I was going to get a PR that day but I didn't. Instead I found families of walkers joining hands as they appeared to be playing red rover. So I was trying to get around them and just wasn't feeling their family solidarity. Then the big hill came. I huffed and puffed up it and almost decided to walk but decided to plug along. In my vision at the top I saw a kid (maybe 11 or 12) dressed in black jeans, a black shirt, and skater shoes jogging along in the gutter hitting every stinkin' puddle he could find. I was CERTAIN I could pass someone who was using so much energy jumping in puddles. I couldn't. I just couldn't get past him dang it. But I did finish and told myself that I could take off at least a minute because it took that long to get to the start line in the beginning. This race had fabulous giveaways. I didn't manage to win anything but it was still fun to see them giving away trampolines, bikes, Little Giant ladders, etc.
Now onto our week. It was CRAZY! We are just so dang busy now with everything. For example, this is how Tuesday went. I got up and went running at 6am. I came home and got ready for the day and left with S shortly before 8 am for her therapy appointment. We came home and picked up everyone and took D to his summer camp pickup spot. The van was late and we had to zoom over to T's friend's house because he is coming to our house on Tuesdays and then leaving about 45 minutes later to go to the summer reading program with T. (Hence another trip out.) The reading program isn't long (only 45 minutes) so I came home and switched out the seat on my bike and pumped up the tires on that and the bike trailer and then gave the girls a few rides. We went and picked T up using the bike from the school and came home for lunch. I then picked up two neighbor girls and took the kids to ballet lessons. During ballet, the two youngest went with me to the mall to find DH some pants to go golfing in. We picked up the girls and came home to drop off the neighbor kids and then headed down to pick up D from his van. All of that happened before 3:30 in the afternoon. Most days are similar. Some days we don't have the summer reading program but we have violin lessons and on others we have t-ball. It's crazy. I'm not getting a whole lot done around my house.
In fact, I felt so out of it all week and couldn't find my cell phone. I found it this morning. I guess I had plugged it in last week to charge. It was where it was supposed to be the entire time and I never looked there. I scoured the car looking for it though. Brilliant!
Speaking of that Tuesday. I hurt my knee while biking. I'm I thought maybe I just strained it or something. It has been tender above my left knee a little bit to the left of center. I was doing a little research today and I tried this test where you bend your knee at a 25 degree angle and then check out your knee camp. Something in there totally moved and popped. And of course, I don't know if it helps that I have had some pain in the back of my knee and continue to feel a little popping there. I don't know how in the heck I could have hurt it biking. I went maybe 3 miles that entire day with the girls. So I have been taking it easy exercisewise all week. I'm not quite sure what to do about it though. It's just frustrating because I got myself up to five milers and now I am having to take a break.
My garden is coming along. I worked in it a little today. With our crazy weather we haven't had as much luck as normal. I have been trying to pull at least 100 weeds a day. Hopefully that will help keep it more manageable.
D had one super great day this week. He really tried to control his tantrums. It's not easy for him as he seems to have them as a habit. I was really proud of him. S also had one super great day. She said she felt so happy when she was acting nicely. It didn't stick though and she stomped on the dog again. I did finally get the truth out of her. She said she did it because she was mad at D for being on the swing when she wanted it. One of the other times she hurt the dog she was mad at me. We need more work on anger management.
M loved ballet this week. A couple of girls in her class got their pointe shoes this week and she was so jealous. She knows she is just too young.
T had a funny t-ball game this week. He thought he should slide into every base. What a goofball. He has also been throwing the bat. DH really talked with him about that. He's no longer spinning like a girl but he has to get out of the habit of tossing the bat after he has hit the ball.
And C, that little turkey, she is getting more and more funny. She gave up her high chair. She just wanted to sit at the table with everyone else. I went and bought a bench that will hold up to 4 little behinds and so now three of them share that space and the high chair has been donated. My friend brought her some little sparkling shoes back from Vietnam. She is trying to figure out how to keep them on her feet. She wants to wear them so badly but just can't keep them on. The first day she grabbed one of them and banged it on the wall when it kept falling off.
Oh and DH and I celebrated our 15th anniversary this week. We are so NOT traditional. I got DH a Cho Pat strap for his knee and some Injinji socks. He brought home a cake from Costco and we each ate a piece the night before letting the kids dig in. We went to a t-ball game with the kids for our 'date'. I came home and worked in the garden and DH worked on the basement.
My grandma also was put in the hospital this past week. They thought she had a carotid aneurysm. They kept her in for a few days, thinned things out and now think things are okay. I feel bad for my mom though because she has so much on her plate right now. Her lodge in Alaska opened, her dad is in a care center, her mom in the hospital, etc. etc. And I can really do nothing to help.
I'm going to google my knee thing a bit more tonight. I love having my computer back. And then it's off to work some more. The floor hasn't been cleaned since this morning and it needs to be done.
Positive Note- It is finally summer here and just maybe my peppers will start growing.

Competing in Everything
Today D had his first day of 'summer camp' as we call it. He adored it and my house was so calm. The kids played so nicely. They were in and out much of the day. The competition element had been removed.
Then DH and I took D and S to the social worker's office for some paperwork. The kids did really well there. On the way there S said to me, "Mom, you are going to keep me even if I am naughty." "Yes S, I am going to keep you forever." "I love you mom."
I think it was sincere.
We got home and I had this feeling that I needed to tell T to come in so we could get ready to leave. I pushed it out of my mind and decided to just let him play a few more minutes. Wouldn't you know that in those few minutes T managed to crash his bike in the street. He came in with a face full of blood and a screaming voice.
Just yesterday D went out and crashed his bike. He looks like he has a goatee (or however you spell it) but it's an abrasion. T has a couple of dangling teeth. DH has taken him to the ER to make sure he didn't crush part of his face because it looks really bad. I just kept thinking, "Why oh why did you have to one up him?"
So I am anticipating a visit to the dentist tomorrow. It's a little bit funny because just today the dentist's office called and said we were due for a visit. I tried to schedule a time but just couldn't get one scheduled. There isn't enough time between activities. Now I have to go in and he won't even get his teeth cleaned.
Oh and the littlest turkey tonight disappeared into the pantry. I found her with a spoon and the hot cocoa powder. She'll be sick tomorrow because of the milk. How in the heck did she figure out that she needed a spoon.
Oh well. It was a beautiful day today.
Positive Note- S had a day without any real tantrums. She had a brief timeout at the social workers office because she was getting a little too feisty. But that is nothing. It really was a pretty good day.
