Wednesday we went to an amusement park with the kids. It wasn't too bad. T was still scared of anything coasterlike (even the baby ones) but we had fun. I learned a lesson there. Don't just take a change of clothes for the baby. Take one for yourself. C must have gotten too hot for the second week in a row (and yes we were pumping her full of fluids) because when I went to change her diaper she threw up all over me TWICE. Luckily, she felt better after that. I bought an overpriced souvenir tee shirt and we continued on. My SIL that lives near there came an joined us for a couple of hours. She even watched a couple of the kids that didn't want/couldn't go on a fun ride and let us go together. How great is that. We haven't been on many rides together except the carousel since we started with the bambinos. We're okay with it. But still, it was a nice treat.
Thursday we had a race. DH won his division again. He's getting faster and faster. I'm amazed at how well his body is adapting to running. None of the kids placed in the kids run. D did the best with a sixth place finish in his category. M was her good ol' slow and steady (just like the mom) and T had problems with his asthma. He had been puffing on his inhaler the night before but it wasn't good enough and he struggled. But it was fun and that was the most important thing. We then watched part of the parade until S decided to eat an opened piece of candy off of the ground. It grossed DH out and we left and went home.
Today T went to the dentist to have a bunch of work done. His appointment was supposed to be for one hour and fifteen minutes and lasted over two hours. He now has a spacer. It made for a crazy day because I came home and picked M up for dance and off we went back in the same direction. Had I known the appointment was going to go over so much I would have just taken her with me.
The baby's tummy is bothering her today. I don't know what she got into or what is bothering her but it's awful. Just about the worst it has been in a long time.
S actually took a nap today on the floor. She must have been wiped out because that is a rare occurrence.
D had a good day but a rough evening. He became an even better cartwheeler. He's quite proud of it. But he wasn't quite so good at telling the truth. He made up a story right before prayers about killing an ant. (I tell them all the time we need to keep food off the floor to keep ants in the yard.) First he killed it on his leg, then between his fingers. But I was sitting beside him the entire time and there was no ant. Then he was mad because we were saying he wasn't being a truth teller. He started blaming us. He had a time out and came back and changed his story and then said that he had squished an ant with his foot. You can always tell when he lies because he mumbles and looks down. He kept getting mad at us over and over saying everything was out fault. Finally we established which things were truths. It was true that he was frustrated. Why was he frustrated? He didn't like us telling him that we thought he was lying. But were we telling the truth, yes. It's exhausting. He makes everything either happy or angry. We are trying to get him to branch out into frustrated, sad, nervous, etc. In then end he got a hug and went to bed feeling better knowing we knew he was making up stories. Who cares about the story. It's the fact that he thinks he can lie and get away with it that is a problem. There is a consequence because lying is against the rules at his summer program. It's not going to be good on his report on Monday. Luckily, that isn't my call to make because it's their rule to drop his level when he does that.
And with that I go to bed. Tomorrow is a busy day just like all the rest.

A Pretty Good Saturday
So what makes a good Saturday?
Let's see. DH was at a race and so I woke up all the kids to haul them around while I got my garage sale fix. So far it doesn't sound like great Saturday material. But I was totally stoked when I managed to find a sale way on the other side of town that was selling their baby and toddler clothes for a dime a piece. I got pants and jeans for both S and C for less than a buck. I found jeans for T (even slims) and jeans for M. For 15 bucks I managed to get a brand new remote control mini helicopter (for T's birthday coming up) still in the box, 4 pairs of jeans (and not just boring ones) and a pair of pants for M, a skirt for M, a few pairs of jeans for both C and S, and a rubbermaid container for our cereal (I knew that lady so it doesn't seem so weird.)
DH won his division in the race he did. He doesn't care so much about that but I love that he is doing something he really likes.
The kids all managed to have a pretty good day. I found great steaks for under 3 bucks a pound and managed to feed my family what seemed like a decent meal (steaks, fresh corn on the cob, and fresh strawberries). Oh and did I mention that I got to go to the store solo. (It was a much needed trip because we were out of milk and cereal. The kids got the end of the Kashi this morning and were less than thrilled.)
I have tons of tomatoes in my garden. My lone broccoli plant had something ready to harvest tonight. It shouldn't have survived the heat but it did. I probably spent 10 bucks trying to grow 50 cents worth of broccoli but I don't care.
S had GREAT behavior today. She had a couple of moments where things could have gone the other way but I caught her before she got out of hand.
M finally can do a cartwheel.
What else?
Dang, this isn't part of the greatness of the day but worth mentioning. C was a cranky creature this evening. She had been awakened by someone during her nap and just didn't recover. She was acting like a pill at dinner and DH told her to go and sit on the can for a one minute time out. The kid just WOULDN'T comply. After several minutes of complaining and whining (not abnormal for a kid that is 1 1/2 years old) she took her stuffed bear and put it on the can. I just wanted to laugh and laugh.

An Early Morning Run
I finally got my keester out of bed early enough to go 'running.' It was slow. It was strained. It was pretty ugly. But it's over! I didn't go very far, just under two miles as I spent too much time contemplating if I should really get out of bed or if I should put it off until tonight.
I had several people (men) wave to me in just a friendly way (not creepy or anything). I have to admit that instead of just thinking, "Oh what nice people!" I thought, "Do you think all chunky monkeys look the same or something?" They appeared to think they knew me. Hmmm... something to think about.
What else? I took M to see the American Girl movie. It was really cute. Of course, I cried. But that isn't saying much since I also cried at my kids' first amusement park rides.
I also got ready to go to T's teacher's wedding reception on Saturday. I grabbed the invite and went to punch in the address for a map and realized that I was two days too late. At least I knew what I was wearing to church the next day.
M was super sweet on Saturday. We were talking about the basement and she wanted to know when it is going to be done. (Don't we all.) I told her that we had to make sure there was plenty of dinero to pay cash for it without tapping into money that is meant for emergencies and the future. She offered to give me all of her hard saved cash. I told her no but thought about how sweet she is.
S had a hard day on Saturday. The dog was being pesty and annoying her so she decided to try to hurt the dog. There are really only three things that make me crazy (hurting the baby, hurting the dog, and one other behavior). It just got her on a roll and she was defiant the entire day. But when little kids are defiant all day long in our house they tend to get really, um, healthy things to eat for dinner. Her dinner was probably much better for her than ours (pizza) but she wasn't thrilled with it (beans, tomatoes, salad, and milk). She has so much potential that one. I picked up some scriptures for her to have on Friday. I knew she would like them just because the big kids have them. But she just scanned those pages all through church. I was so surprised at how interested in words she could be when she can't read them.
C's language is exploding. It's just too bad that she only manages the first syllable of anything. It makes it a little hard to figure out what in the heck she is saying half of the time. Then ends of her hair have a little curl to them and it's so dang cute. (Of course, it would be cuter if she would leave cute little hair clippies in her hair too.)
T has had it with the summer reading thing. I think he finally realized that it's not some crafty class. I don't care though because he needs to be a better reader. He has really improved over the summer.
D has had a pretty good weekend. He had a date with DH on Saturday. He had a challenging Friday though. We went to a reservoir near our home and took a neighbor boy. This little boy is so dang cute. I really like him. He is a little bit delayed though and doesn't always catch on to what is going on. But T loves to play with him and is so sweet to him. D just hasn't found that yet. He doesn't seem to have that instinctive feeling that he needs to be a little nicer. Little neighbor boy was trying to play with him and D didn't like how he was playing in his sand and started screaming at him. I sent D to play farther away. Little neighbor boy would do the same thing with T's sand creations and T didn't seem to be bothered by it at all. He would just change what his creation was. I'm going to talk to the therapist to see if there is a way I can help D sense when he needs to be extra kind.
The reservoir was fun for the kids though. They had a great time. The kids all want to go back.
Last night we played Jenga as a family. C didn't quite get the game though and spent much of the time trying to get to it so she could kick it over. It became more fun to make multiple towers and watch her go for them.

I spoke too early
Little Miss S decided to pull a new one this afternoon. Maybe I shouldn't have blogged earlier. She was angry because she was told to pick some little pieces of garbage on the stairs (because she wouldn't sit in timeout without complaining and screaming). We have moved to time out, if you comply you get to get off after the minutes of your age. If you don't serve your time out then you get to work for a little bit and then you get the chance at sitting in time out again.
So S was doing her stairs, or not doing them, as the case was and was screaming and complaining. It's not like she had to do a whole lot of work. She needed to pick up a couple of pieces of paper. She kept saying she was angry and then she threw up on my stairs. It wasn't a huge spot. She came up and told me she threw up and that it was on purpose. She didn't throw up because she was sick, she did it because she was angry. UGH! She just keeps on trying new things.
I'm hoping that this is a positive sign. I'm trying to look at it with the silver lining of she must realize those other things aren't working for her. We'll try to get rid of this the same way. I can't have her doing this. Not only is it hard to deal with a kid that throws up when she is mad. It would be a disaster for a kid that can't control her eating. This one has to be nipped in the bud.
She's a cute little turkey. We just have to help her control her anger. She has every reason to be angry. But it will take over if we don't work with her.

Busy, busy, and busy
It seems that we just can't get a break from being busy. So I figured I would take 3 minutes and quickly update.
Things have been running relatively smoothly here at Chez Crazy. We are still recovering from letting the kids stay up to watch fireworks. There are so schedule dependent as well as sleep dependent. It's a good thing that we try to run a pretty tight ship or we would have cranky cranky kids all the time. Even the biggest one was cranky on Sunday. Sticking to the schedule doesn't make everyone happy though. We just can't please everyone though. I'm all for doing what has to be done even if it isn't popular right now.
And my three minutes are up. I managed to get my floors clean earlier. They already have crumbs. But alas, that is life.

Good Days
I just had to record that we have had two good days with little Miss S. She hasn't been in timeout even one time. Maybe she has realized that we really do mean business and it just isn't worth it. She hasn't been scowling much or anything. Don't get me wrong. I know this won't last forever because everyone is prone to making mistakes or being grouchy. I'm just enjoying it while it lasts.
D has also been doing somewhat better. He has had a few fits that were pretty big but still, he has been much better.
Last night I tried running on my 'fixed' knee. It didn't hurt. I only did just under two miles to make sure. I didn't want to end up hurting it and then be stuck far away. I used my Nike + thing and it was a great motivator. I was about a minute and a half faster on each mile. For a slowpoke like me that is pretty dang great. I could tell I was running faster though because both my sides hurt and they never hurt. I'm still excited to try again tonight.

A funny prayer
I almost forgot to mention the funny little prayer that D gave before DH went out of town for work last week. He prayed that DH would be safe on his 'vacation from the family'. I almost started laughing. I know DH works hard when he is out of town and doesn't really enjoy it that much but I thought it was funny for D to think of it that way. (Well, that and DH did get to go to Ruth's Chris while he was out of town.)
