In the last week I have begun to think that just maybe S is making some progress. She hasn't been plowing through her food without tasting it. I haven't caught her eating anything that wasn't a food. She has even started deciding she is done eating without finishing everything. That is HUGE! Her behaviors seemed to be improving some as well. There were still stronger and longer tantrums than four year olds usually have but they weren't was they used to be.
I got a little cocky. I think deep inside I was giving myself a little too much credit for it. And then this week she was caught doing her most difficult behavior two times. I'm trying to change the reaction and see if that helps because with her you always have to be one step ahead. Her door is coming off her room today. That might help.
I had C on my lap and said to her, "C, your mom is just average." (Can you tell I had given myself a little too much credit just to realize that we are all pretty much average at something?)
And C replied, "My mom not average. My mom is awesome!" (I don't know how she got the verb in one sentence and not in the other. And to top that off, I don't think she knows what average even means.)
She made me feel better that little turkey.
Oh and on the other little munchkins, they all had good reports for parent teacher conferences. D's classroom behaviors are improving again. There are less meltdowns and less crying fits. This is huge. I was so proud of him. It's a real struggle for him. T had his first report of all outstandings. His teacher asked if he is as good at home as he is at school. (The answer is a big fat NO!) He really likes to goof around so I know it's hard for him not to do it at school. Once again I was a happy mama. And M had the cutest letter. She wrote that she hoped her teacher would tell us she was always respectful. And of course her teacher said great things because she is a super kid. It was really nice to have three good visits with teachers.
Oh and as for C. She is just chatting it up. I will be said though when she starts saying yep instead of lep. She is really into some good foot stomping when she is angry. She likes two ponytails, not one. We went to buy her a new swimsuit yesterday because they were on sale (and did I mention the ground is all snowy again today) and she did not want the ones I was interested in. She wanted a blue polka dot one. Blue is her favorite color. I should not have been surprised.
I think I have decided against going to Alaska for a week this summer. My mom is taking M up to their lodge and I was going to go. But in reality, the plane ticket alone is about 800 dollars and there are so many other costs as well. I just don't think I can do it. Eventually, my mom would like our whole family to go but of course, take that 800 and multiply it by 7 and it because one pricey trip. So we are looking at taking a two week vacation and driving up through Calgary and over to Prince Rupert and then taking the ferry for a couple of days to their lodge. I think it might be a bit of a fun adventure and it would cut about between 2 and 3 thousand dollars off the cost. We might die after being in the car together that long though. :)
And lastly, I lost a measly .4 pounds this week. I was starving. Last week I was hungry all week and I lost .8. So for two very hungry weeks I lost less than five sticks of butter. Once again, my good friend said don't worry about it. You are not going to lose much of anything when you are under so much stress so you might as well enjoy life a bit. But that would be almost 30 pounds by next year if I just stay stressed and hungry. I keep telling myself that wouldn't be so bad. DH and I did really well with the refined sugars though. There was a tiny bit in the barbecue sauce on the chicken on Sunday when we were at my MIL's but that is pretty much it. And I think we have been gluten free now for two weeks. I probably need to cut the rice and corn products out but I just so don't want to.
I can't wait for it to warm up a bit. I had dh get some rebar and I am going to pound it into the ground so my beans, cukes and peas can grow up it. We'll see how it works. Right now they are 10 feet long. The beans are supposed to grow at least 6 feet tall and here everything seems to grow even bigger than it is supposed to. I'm not quite sure how I will pound in 10 foot long sticks. I guess I'll just take a ladder out there and see if i can get them in about two feet. I'm hoping a really great garden can help with our food costs this summer. And if not, there is always a nice lesson involved in gardening.

Just a few things
I haven't written in forever because, well, I have so much to write and can't manage to get it all in.
We just returned from Arizona. We went down to a Cubs game to celebrate Joshua's birthday. They lost but it was fun.
In the two full days that we were there we managed to visit two friends, two great grandmas and a great grandpa along with dh's aunt and uncle and one of his cousin's family. I went to several garage sales and found M some cute jeans that were obviously not worn a whole bunch due to the heat (or maybe the kid just grew, who knows?).
We went to buy flowers to take to the boys and some younger guy (I'm thinking young twenties) came in to buy a dozen roses. A minute later someone else comes into the flower shop to say that someone's blue car has rolled into a major road. I guess the kid forgot to put the car in park or something. This was not some little road. We are talking a 7 lane road. I can't believe it didn't cause a wreck. That was luck for certain.
M was shocked because I didn't turn into a blubbering idiot at the cemetery. I did that two nights earlier and was feeling a little done with the tears and the woe is me. I can only woe so much and well, my eyes were so puffy after the first time that I made a decision to just not do that again.
I reflected once again on how my Joshua gave me C. She would have ended up just like him and instead she is a little miracle due to major medical following. I give thanks forever to my Joshua for her.
We managed to do everything on M's list. She has a shaved ice place she loves, Soupersalad and Dunkin Donuts. She's funny about traditions.
T and C were both a little sick. I thought it was just their regular tummy problems but it turned out to be something more projectile. C got me good tonight after we got home. Luckily, I cleaned up easily in the shower and she didn't get my new carpet. It sounds dumb but I was thrilled. Doesn't it figure that we skipped visiting my SIL and BIL because they had a kid with the stomach flu and we still ended up with it.
D and S had a much much better trip this year. We didn't have major tantrums at every turn. I think they both enjoyed the trip much more as well. S's tantrums did return when we got home but that was expected as she got her way much of the time in AZ and I believe she thinks that it is her doing. But it was better and I am so grateful. It was good to have a strong memory to compare with.
I'm a little stressed over health issues in my family this week. My grandma has some scary wound on her leg. She has MRSA and things just don't heal like they would on most of us. Then, I talked with my mom tonight and found out that when she was at a friends house she got attacked by a dog and ended up in the ER for stitches. I'm hoping she will heal a little better than she normally does.
My mom then told me as we were driving home that she has a blurry spot in the center of her vision and she is going to go and see a doctor. Of course, I jumped right to macular degeneration and started worrying away. She thinks it's because her blood was way too thin (according to the docs to the you could just bleed internally and die point) and she thinks her eyes just have been bleeding inside. Either way, it isn't good. I would hate for her to lose her vision. I'm hoping she gets in ASAP. This did make me think that my answer to my mom about taking M to their lodge in Alaska will be a yes. I don't want her to miss that especially if she is going to lose much of her vision eventually. I may end up heading up there myself. (Don't expect me to bring home a bear or anything, maybe a whale picture or two.)
The good news is that I was a pretty dang good dieter this week and I had better lose at least a pound. It's not often you come home from 'vacation' without gaining weight and I will be thrilled if I'm down a bit.
Oh, and the orange blossoms smelled heavenly in AZ. Oh how I love that smell! It makes me have the sniffles but I still love it. I really do like AZ. I feel so comfy there. But it was nice to come home and see no graffiti. DH and I spotted at least 200 deer on the way home. I would miss that too. They were everywhere.
Oh, and I came home to daffodils. That's always exciting. My bamboo plant bit the dust but the daffodils outside did well. I'll take what I can get.

Groundhog Day
I'm not talking about the day that recently passed that showed a bunch of winter (if that was even the result).
Last Saturday I took M to play with a friend that lives two towns south of us. We skipped the freeway and took a road that travels through the main road of each town. When I entered this town I had to turn at a light. It's at the top of a little hill. When I took her out to play I noticed that across from me in the opposite turn lane there was a police officer for that town. I hoped I had been obeying all the laws, turned and went my way.
2 1/2 hours later I went back to get her. I arrived at the same turn lane and the same cop was there turning the same direction. I had to ask myself it I really was going back for a second time.
M had a fabulous time at her friends house. I think we as parents all do somethings well and some things not so well. I saw something in my parenting that needs improvement. When she was at her friends it started hailing. They went outside and captured some hail and then cut them open to see the layers. The most I would have done would be to call the kids to the window to take a look. I think I need to do better at making the most of moments.
I'm hoping this week goes well. It was a rough day yesterday. In the night T woke me up to tell me he had thrown up (all over the bed of course) and of course everything needed to be cleaned. Then DH came in that morning to tell me that S had peed her bed (once again according to her because she just didn't feel like getting out of bed). That made for more laundry and a miserable day with her. Then DH told me that our federal tax return was rejected (due to me not getting around to changing the kids names on the social security cards). After many hours of S's screaming tantrums I called up a friend and asked her to run to Target with me. There is nothing like a good trip to Target to lift one's spirits. I took back my great piece of furniture with all the fabulous drawers (a whopping 75% off too) that I would turn into clutter filled drawers. I also took back the cute thing for C's walls that was also 75% off because as cute as it was, she really didn't need it.
When I came home S had a scratchy voice. I guess wailing tantrums will do that to you. She has pretty much been nonstop defiance for the last month. And this morning I only saw a little of it. I'm hoping she has used that up for a week or two and is willing to make good choice that keep her happy. If not, we will just press on.
Our new tv is going into the shop today. I'm a bit bummed because I really like having that thing. But I am grateful that it is under warranty for another week. Luckily I don't watch it much and haven't even sat down in front of it for 2 or 3 weeks. But it wouldn't be fair to leave the kids with DH's sister for the weekend without any tv.
Oh, and our mouse is gone. It fell into a trap. I am so relieved!

Encore
That would be an encore of the mice (or mouse I hope). I saw the little bugger. I was changing a diaper and I saw it zoom for the fridge. Then I ran away and freaked out and didn't see where it went. But it is NOT in the pantry. My friend opened the door and it was not anywhere to be found. She did find a hole in the floor under my oven though. I can hardly stand to be in my house.
What is worse is that I have now made M and C terrified. C says, "I really scared." Way to go me for passing on my unrealistic fears.
But now that I have been informed that my death by dehydration method probably won't work I guess I should be glad it's out of the pantry and there are no onions or potatoes for it feed off of.
I'm trying to come up with some ideas to get D to stay on task in school. He's having many rough days according to his teacher. I'm sure it's really tough for her because you have to ignore many of the attention seeking behaviors and pay attention to the good ones. But at school you can't just let a kid get away with everything. We'll figure it out.
Tomorrow is my too much hip in my hop class. I'm excited to get out. I am, however, NOT looking forward to standing on the scale manana. I have even been pretty dang okay and I was up today. I am guessing that the scale will not be friendly tomorrow.
I'm hoping no mice climb in my bed tonight. EWWWWW! And tomorrow I will try to be out of the house as much as possible to let the little creature have some piece and eat some delicious Velveeta on a trap.

The Ballet Rehersal, A Weekend, And Today
Friday night my friend and I took our oldest daughters to a rehearsal for the professional company's upcoming performance. It was in the rehearsal rooms at the theater downtown. I was expecting a bunch of people watching them rehearse on the stage. It was nothing like that. The liaison from the ballet company along with all of us watching were able to squeeze in a not so huge elevator. When we got to the room where there were rehearsing they just set up some extra chairs. M walked in and ended up sitting right next to the artistic director for the company. We were literally a few feet away from the dancers rehearsing the main roles. It was totally awesome. And of course, like in ballet companies everywhere, the 1st and 2nd casts were also there marking in the background. The two principal ballerinas were there. It made me really excited to go and see it on my Valentine's date. (Yes, that is a real show of love from DH.)
After we took the girls to a mall because they were dying to use their money to buy earrings. I just kept listening to M and her best friend and continued to marvel at how much they have grown up. They met when they were just about 18 months old and they are still such great pals.
Then on Saturday we got off to a slow start. The kids just would NOT do their chores. They should have been done in about 20-30 minutes max! But no, it took until almost noon to get them done. When they were finally done we took M and her friend over to a ballet friend's house. I stayed for a while and got the tour of their home and checked out their Wii Fit (oh how I want a Wii and how I can't get one yet. It's just not right for my boys now. UGH!)
I came home and did what I have been meaning to do. I braced my knees and hauled my keester out for a run. I used DH's pretty much unused super cook Christmas gift. I love that Garmin Forerunner. I started out too fast for me. The pace said 11 something. But I slowed way down to a crawl. The only thing more frightening than my red face was Gunner the dog that was outside with it's owner. It was a big dog but I wasn't too worried. So I continued plodding along at a much slower than 11 something pace. Then I heard the owner say, "Come back here Gunner." Loud barking from TWO dogs was right behind me. I was terrified because the owner didn't seem to have control of them. I slowed right down to a walk and just continued on without looking back. I still have both legs and the dogs never got me.
I managed to make it two miles but very very slow miles (think 14 minute range for the last mile). The next day I was so sore. It felt great to move like that. I'm going to try to go again.
DH and I had a babysitter on Saturday night. We went to a church meeting and then out for dessert after. We were with some funny people and I spent a bunch of time laughing. I did manage to NOT eat my entire dessert and gave it to DH. That's a bit of a victory. D had a problem with the babysitter. Before leaving DH told the kids to go to bed without problems when it was bedtime. D managed to keep complaining and would come up with excuse after excuse. It'll be a bummer for him because the next time there is a sitter (this Saturday) he won't be watching the movie with everyone but will be going to bed early. I wasn't super surprised though because he had problems with his sub at school again this week. I don't know if he will ever get it but we'll just love him anyway.
Sunday we had two hours of church (a nice short day). Stake conference was so busy that we ended up in a room without even a television. We just listened. I was surprised because I got more out of it without a television. Then we went to DH's parents house.
And now onto today. I heard a noise... okay, let me go back. On Saturday the boys were asked to put their scooters away. When we got home we found that they had NOT shut the garage door. So you can understand when I heard a noise I immediately thought it was a mouse. But then I decided that it was just this bag on the counter that I was putting garbage in. The bag had shifted I concluded. Then I was on the phone getting things ready for some soup for dinner. I went to get an onion out of the pantry and heard movement inside. Yep, this time I started freaking out. The nice friend on the phone came in and set a trap and then I tried to seal the pantry up with my almost patented towel and tape method. But why would a mouse want cheese on a trap when it had a smorgasbord of food in a pantry.
We won't be opening that door for a while. And who knows, I may have heard nothing but I highly doubt it.
Our soup will have no potatoes in it.
So that's where we are at. I need to go and put my bread in the oven so it can cook before violin lessons. I hope it tastes decent because the soup isn't going to be the best.

Bakuga
There is this new thing in my house. It's not new to most people but I am a little slow on things that are up to date.
My boys are wanting bakuga this and bakuga that. I just don't get the little things. But heck I still don't understand Pokemon either.
Last night T went to the store with DH because his money just HAD to buy a bakuga. He ended up with a mini one that doesn't even turn into a ball. What a waste of 3 bucks.
But he was thrilled.
I guess it lasts longer than two big diet cokes.
Maybe he is the smart one.

Sickies
I think sickness is inevitable in the winter. It happens. I used to try to avoid it but for the most part I don't care now. (Well, that is unless we are travelling and then I really do try to avoid it.) now that I type this I realize that I am so spouting off things that are not true. I do care. I don't like them to be sick. I guess all that I have done to improve is not worrying about every stinkin' runny nose.
Now I'll fast forward to my story. This past week I went to my little craft club and worked on making necklaces. I don't know what I will do with them as I don't wear jewelry. (Okay, and I did pick up my emerald finally after having it fixed. It's been missing a diamond for let's see, that would be about 3 years. I have my Niko ring back and now my finger is a little on the chunky monkey side for it. I'm afraid if I put it on for long my finger might swell and then I'd have to cut the dang thing off. Once again, the ring is in the drawer.) I don't even have a wedding ring on. (Once again, two damaged prongs and I haven't taken it in since I discovered that 2 1/2 years ago.) So now I have these cute things to put on necklaces and no necklace. Hmm... I do have a drawer.
The reason I mentioned this craft club is that C started saying her head hurt while I was there. She was getting pretty warm so I left and went home. Within a few hours she was throwing up on my new carpet. LOVELY! That night her fever was stuck above 103. I just couldn't get it to come down and she couldn't keep anything down for even 10 seconds. I tried 1/2 oz of water or ginger ale and within a few seconds she would toss it. It took about 12 hours to get her fever down. She was so miserable. I spent all night up with her because every 10 minutes or so she would scream out my name. The first few hours had me looking at her little miracle of a face. That was until about 2:30. Then I started getting really tired. I tried to keep her happy by holding her hand while I slept near her. It didn't work. She just wanted to lay on top of me. Well, once the barfing was done and she kept down an inch of popsicle I let her lay on me (with a big blanket covering me) just to get a few more minutes of sleep. I was so desperate.
Yesterday I took her to the docs because I thought she might have an ear infection. She didn't. Just a nasty virus. My friend kept D and S for me. They ran ....
STOP
I just stopped typing so that I could go check on C who has been calling my name from her crib. I kept thinking, "Kid. It's been 45 minutes. You are taking a nap."
She was thinking, "Mom. I have a pooping diaper and I just pulled it off in my bed." EWWWW!
At least she isn't giving up on the nap.
Back to the story.
I took D to school. He seemed fine. He had been playing like crazy. Then about 15 minutes after I had dropped him off I got a call from him. "Mommy, my tummy is really hurting. I'm going to throw up."
Well, when you have someone in your house that has thrown up you just can't ignore it. Once when T tried this I went to school, said he didn't eat enough lunch and handed him a banana and sent him back to class. But this time we have had sickness.
But the kid didn't look sick. He looked like a kid who wanted to go home and watch television. There is, however, always the thought that you send the kid back to class and your kid is the one that barfs all over. So I took him home.
Boy was he surprised. If you come home sick from school you go to your bed, not to the couch by the television. He went in there and got bored quickly. I took his temp and it was 98.2. A nice normal number.
Then when the kids walked in the door from school he came out claiming he was all better. Hmmm... it doesn't work that way buddy. Instead he got to stay in bed all afternoon and evening. I took him books and told him I hoped the rest was going to make him better.
When dinner came I took him some soda crackers and a little water. (Then I took him more soda crackers and water because I KNEW he wasn't sick and didn't want him to be super hungry.) And then he got to go to bed early.
This morning he got up and said he felt all better and it was like he 'almost wasn't even sick.'
Yep. I was laughing inside.
He was really excited to go to school today.
